“A vital aspect of our work at Chinchilla Dental is the prevention of oral diseases.” During your Examination: During the process of your examination we diagnose what caused any problems found, and we aim to prevent ongoing issues where possible with our preventative dentistry. Our Hygienist will provide professional scaling and cleaning, assess your risk factors and customise an oral hygiene programme including any products and useful tips to reduce your risks if possible. Factors that increase your risk of dental problems include: Irregular or non-attendance for dental examinations. Smoking. Not brushing twice per day with fluoride toothpaste. Avoiding products containing fluoride. Dry mouth (see below). Not cleaning between the teeth. (flossing, inter-proximal brushes) Excessive sugar consumption especially sugary and acidic liquids like soft drink and juice frequently throughout the day. Excessive sugar free soft drink consumption. (despite the absence of sugar, high acidity levels encourage decay and erosion) Frequent snacking and grazing. Gastric issues. (such as reflux, morning sickness, frequent vomiting), Consumption of chewable vitamin supplements. Increasing age and loss of manual dexterity (conditions such as Parkinson’s, arthritis, MS and neurodegenerative diseases and increasing age) Side-effects of some medications. Poor general health. Dry Mouth: Dry mouth can lead to many dental problems. Saliva plays a critical role in our mouth and low or non-existent saliva can lead to increased risk of decay, bad breath and discomfort with denture wear.
